Come to China lookin for work

In Xi'an, we ran into these two Bangladeshis looking for work, since there is none at home. The Chinese dream. They slept in the subway that night, no money in their pockets, but big dreams, my friends, big dreams.

replacement therapy

what happens when they decide to take down the old sign for the local skating-rink and replace it with a brand new bland-as-hell sign? apparently one leaves the old sign by the dumpster. probably because they know, as well as you or i, that they fucked up. big time. the old sign was way cooler, but now it's broken and left out to rust. put out to pasture as it were. good-bye Skateport. Memoria: the elementary nights spent racing around your painted concrete floor while jaming to Footloose underneath a disco ball lightshow; enjoying your bizarre yet wondrous confectionary delights (more commonly known as the Ring Pop and Rope Licorice) at the Snack Bar; playing Galaxian at the cocktail table. . .

then again, it is lovely out. . .

Bangkok's Independent Newspaper, The Nation, reported just this past Monday, Sept. 11, "There will be no coup in Thailand says PM", i guess no one was paying attention. at least the people with the tanks weren't anyway, they were just waiting for him to leave town. now, i'm not a supporter of the PM in any way, in fact he's responsible for some fuckin' dodgey shit, but i'm also not very much a fan of military coups. . . it'll be interesting to see how this unfolds. . . Mr. Bedell, any news from the north??

i think i just threw up a little in my mouth

thanks to matablog for the link. . . 12 a year huh? any coincidence there??

mr. winters. . . i don't know where the green line came from. i was just trying to get some good pics of semis as we sped down the interstate. the camera (casio 4mp) has a "night" setting that keeps the shutter open for 4sec. so, on the second pic. i moved the camera a little and in the third pic. i was waving the camera around like a jackass.

Beijing Revisited

Here are some leftover pics from China. The building is Mao Zedong Memorial Hall, Tiananmen Square and the monument in front of it is the Monument to the People's Heroes.

Tiananmen Tower is at the north end of the Square and is the front door to the Forbidden City.

Old man and the sea

Ohhhh, life at the Hasuk with our favorite old man (lighting a ciggy on the right). No Soju tonight, looks like they have broken out the Makoli. Never a sober moment for our mysterious man. For those who don't know, one day, he bought us drinks and told us he was leaving Seoul to head to Pusan, even though he had no friends or family there. I asked why, and he just said "I hate Seoul." The next day I saw him lugging a medium-sized suitcase down the road. Wanting to avoid a replay of our goodbye, I slowed down until finally he was out of sight.

Here is Hoops, looking like he isn't sure he likes what he is eating (Sushi and noodles on New Year's Eve). Dan is digging it, though.

Time Cube Revisited

Well, I have no idea how I missed the time cube deal, and I also have no idea how the good doctor there is able to write so much crapola. I scrolled down the first page and was astonished to see a second one. Then I came upon this, my favorite bit of the entire site: ALL CLOCK FACES ARE WRONG. Please tell me how you found this stuff. I think if you take a hallucinogen and look at this site your brain explodes. Believe me, if I actually knew what the time cube was, I would actually want to believe. For the time being, I only know that SINGULARITY IS DAMNABLE LIE.
